Μερικοί από τους σπασμένους τάφους/πηγή:Ηπειρωτικός Αγών

Όπως όλοι θυμόμαστε η κατάσταση στα Ιωάννινα τους τελευταίους μήνες έχει ξεφύγει από κάθε έλεγχο και εμφανίζεται ένα κύμα αντισημιτικής βίας που όμοιο του είχαμε να δούμε δεκαετίες. Επίκεντρο το εβραϊκό νεκροταφείο στο κέντρο των Ιωαννίνων που έχει δεχθεί δεκάδες επιθέσεις τα τελευταία χρόνια μέσα στην γενικότερη αδιαφορία της πόλης και υποψίες για συμμετοχή της ίδιας της αστυνομίας στους βανδαλισμούς, ενώ οι τοπικές αρχές είτε αδιαφορούσαν είτε σιωπηρά επικροτούσαν όπως οι τοπικές οργανώσεις του ΛάΟΣ και της Νέα Δημοκρατία. Ειδικότερα τους τελευταίους μήνες έχει σημειωθεί μια απίστευτη έξαρση των επιθέσεων που έφτασαν να είναι οι χειρότερες των 20 ετών και  με αποκορύφωμα αυτές του Ιουνίου που είχαμε δει σε αυτή την ανάρτηση, (συνολικά φέτος έγιναν τουλάχιστον 5, πχ του Ιουλίου).

Ευτυχώς αυτή η συστηματική και έντονη αντισημιτική βία στα Ιωάννινα οδήγησε μια μικρή αλλά σημαντική ομάδα γιαννιωτών που βρίσκονται στο ιστολόγιο Πρωτοβουλία Πολιτών για την υπεράσπιση του Εβραϊκού Νεκροταφείου των Ιωαννίνων να πουν Oχι στον βιασμό της πόλης τους και της ιστορίας της. Το μόνο που μπορώ να πω είναι μπράβο και ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ για το κουράγιο τους να δηλώσουν το αυτονόητο αλλά το οποίο προφανώς έχει κόστος: Όχι στο μίσος, Όχι στον αντισημιτισμό.

Διπλό μπράβο γιατί αυτό δεν το δηλώνουν ανώνυμα όπως εγώ αλλά επώνυμα. Τριπλό μπράβο γιατί δεν το κάνουν κάτω από μια κομματική ομπρέλα που θα διευκόλυνε τα πράγματα και θα παρείχε προστασία απέναντι στους πολλούς “απέναντι”. Τετραπλό μπράβο γιατί δεν ξεχνούν και την Παρασκευή 18 Δεκεμβρίου διοργανώνουν ανοικτή συγκέντρωση ενάντια στον αντισημιτισμό στις 14.30 το μεσημέρι έξω από το νεκροταφείο στην οδό Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου. Εγώ θα είμαι εκεί, εσύ ;

Η Πρωτοβουλία  Πολιτών για την προάσπιση  του εβραϊκού νεκροταφείου, διοργανώνει  την Παρασκευή 18 Δεκεμβρίου δύο εκδηλώσεις υπό τον γενικό τίτλο: «Τα Γιάννενα θυμούνται».

Όπως είναι  ήδη γνωστό, η Πρωτοβουλία συγκροτήθηκε από πολίτες των Ιωαννίνων  που αντιτίθενται στις ρατσιστικές  και νεοναζιστικές επιθέσεις  εναντίον του εβραϊκού νεκροταφείου της πόλης.

Οι εκδηλώσεις έχουν ως εξής:

- Στις 19.30, στην αίθουσα της Εταιρείας Ηπειρωτικών Μελετών (Παρασκευοπούλου 4), οργανώνει εκδήλωση λόγου. Οι ομιλητές είναι ερευνητές και συγγραφείς βιβλίων για τα Γιάννενα και την εβραϊκή κοινότητα, (με αλφαβητική σειρά):

Broken tombs of the cemetery/source:Ipirotikos Agon

As we all remember the situation in the greek city of Ioannina these past months has more than warranted the characterization of an emergency as a wave of antisemitic violence has swept Greece like no other in the last 20 years. The epicenter has been the Jewish Cemetery of the millenia-old community which has been subject of tenths of attacks these past few years amidst the general indifference of the city and allegations of police involvement in the vandalisms; while local authorities kept silent and local political parties like antisemitic Extreme-Right LAOS or conservative Nea Dimokratia silently applauded. Especially these past months we have witnessed an amazing rise of incidents which were the worst in decades and culminated in the June attacks we had seen in this blog post, (this year we have had at least 5, eg the one in July).

Fortunately this systematic and intense antisemitic violence in Ioannina has driven a small but important group Ioannina citizens which can be found in the blog Citizen Initiative for the defence of the Jewish Cemetery of Ioannina to say No to the rape of their city and history. The only thing I can say to them is bravo and a hearfelt thank you for their courage to state the self-evident which apparently comes at a cost here in Greece: No to hatred, No to antisemitism.

Two times bravo because they say this in public and not anonymously like I do. Three times bravo because they do not enjoy a political “shelter” which would ease things up and protect them against the many “on the other side”. Four times bravo because they do not forget and on Friday December, 18th they organize a public rally against antisemitism at 14.30 outside the Jewish Cemetery in Megalou Alexandrou str. I will be there, you?

O Πειραιώς Σεραφείμ αντιμετωπίζει τους εωσφοροσιωνιστές

Ο Μητροπολίτης Πειραιώς κ. Σεραφείμ (Σεραφείμ Μεντζελόπουλος) είναι από τους πιο δυναμικούς ιεράρχες της Ελληνικής Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας και δεν διστάζει να λέει τα πράγματα όπως αυτός τα πιστεύει.

Η μάλλον αρνητική άποψη του για τους ομοφυλόφιλους είναι γνωστή:

“Ηθικά απονευρωμένους, με ψυχοπαθολογικές εκτροπές και ψυχασθένειες, με μανία ικανοποιήσεως της ψυχοπαθολογικής των εκτροπής, που έκαναν αξία ζωής τον σωλήνα αποβολής των περιττωμάτων.”

και μάλιστα μήνυσε τους ομοφυλόφιλους ακτιβιστές που τον επέκριναν για αυτές τις δηλώσεις, (via και via). Προφανώς στηρίζω την προσπάθεια του 10% και φιλικά θα ήθελα να προσθέσω μερικές ακόμη απόψεις του κ.Σεραφείμ που αφορούν εμένα ως έλληνα εβραίο και δείχνουν ότι για τον κ.Σεραφείμ οι έννοιες “εβραίοι” και “σιωνισμός” είναι αλληλένδετες και αποτελούν και οι δύο εχθροί του. 4. Το μέγα δικαστήριο στο Αρχαίο Ισραήλ που έπαψε τον 4^ο αιώνα αναστήθηκε στην Ολλανδία και είναι μια μασονική σούπερ στοά. Αξίζει κάποιος να διαβάσει τις ανακοινώσεις του γιατί είναι ξεκάθαρο το πώς η λέξη σιωνισμός και εβραϊσμός χρησιμοποιούνται εναλλάξ ή ταυτόχρονα – πχ για τα γεγονότα στην Γάζα αναφέρεται στα γαμψά νύχια του σιωνιστικού τέρατος αλλά μετά επιτίθεται στην ίδια την ελληνική εβραϊκή κοινότητα και την κατηγορεί ότι συνωμοτεί για την έλευση της Νέας Εποχής μαζί με τους Μασόνους,

Τα συγχαρητήρια μου στην Εκκλησία της Ελλάδος που αφήνει τέτοιες δηλώσεις να περνάνε ασχολίαστες – μετά καθόμαστε και ασχολούμαστε με την Καθολική Εκκλησία και τους αντισημίτες επισκόπους της – είναι εμφανές οτι τίποτα δεν έχει αλλάξει και η Εκκλησία της Ελλάδος παραμένει ένας αρνητικός πρωταγωνιστής σε μια περίοδο πολλαπλών αντισημιτικών επεισοδίων όπως είδαμε τον Ιανουάριο φέτος. Υπενθυμίζω οτι ο Πειραιώς Σεραφείμ δεν κατηγόρησε οτι συνωμοτούν κατά της Ελλάδος μόνο γενικά τους εβραίους αλλά και συγκεκριμένα και την ελληνική εβραϊκή κοινότητα, έλληνες πολίτες αυτής της χώρας – λυπάμαι που η Εκκλησία της Ελλάδος δέχεται οτι ο αντισημιτισμός συνάδει τόσο με το πνευματικό μήνυμα της, όσο και τον θεσμικό της ρόλο.

Προφανώς περιορίσθηκα στα πλέον πρόσφατα γεγονότα. Από εκεί και πέρα θα μπορούσαμε να πούμε πολλά όπως πχ για το μνημόσυνο που τέλεσε σε εκδήλωση του think-tank του ΛΑΟΣ και ανέδειξε ο Στόχος αλλά θα ξεφύγουμε. Απλώς να θυμίσω οτι μιας και μόνο οι Ορθόδοξοι ιερείς μισθοδοτούνται από το Κράτος και οι δικοί μου φόροι πληρώνουν το δικό του μηνιάτικο.

Υγ. Είναι κρίμα να πιστεύουμε ότι ο Μητρ.Πειραιώς είναι μόνος του – κορυφαία δήλωση παράνοιας:
Ο Σεβασμιώτατος Μητροπολίτης Ιερισσού, Αγίου Όρους και Αρδαμερίου κ. Νικόδημος, επισήμανε: «Το κείμενο αυτό είναι γνωστό εις τους Θεολόγους ως κείμενο ψευδεπίγραφο. Νομίζω ότι πρόκειται περί συνομωσίας των Σιωνιστών, για να σκανδαλίσουν.

It’s worth the time for someone to actually read his statements so one can see how the words “Zionism” and “Judaism” are used alternatively one with the other or simultaneously– eg. he speaks of the Zionist Monster with sharp claws in Gaza but later on goes to attack the local Jewish community for complotting to bring a New Epoch together with the Masons, (alias for Satanists), differentiating himself from other bishops who are content with spreading an unspecific hatred against the religion of their Lord. for letting these antisemitic outbursts go without the slightest comment – it is fair to say that she remains a negative protagonist in a scene of rising antisemitism as we saw in the antisemitic orgy of December and January this year; it makes the Catholic Church with her share of antisemitic bishops sound quite normal. Διμοιρίες των ΜΑΤ έξω από συναγωγές, συσκέψεις σε εβραϊκά σχολεία – ενώ συναγωγές, νεκροταφεία και μνημεία γινόντουσαν στόχος βανδαλισμών και εμπρησμών. Αυτή ήταν η εικόνα που παρουσίαζε ο Ελληνικός Εβραϊσμός τους μήνες Δεκέμβριο και Ιανουάριο όταν το σύνολο της ελληνικής κοινωνίας αποφάσισε ότι ο καλύτερος τρόπος να στηρίξει τους «αγωνιστές της Χαμάς» (η γνωστή αντισημιτική εφημερίδα Αυριανή, 29/12/08) ήταν να ξεσπάσουν ενάντια στους έλληνες συμπολίτες που γεννήθηκαν με την λάθος θρησκεία. Αν και το είχα γράψει από μήνες είχα αποφασίσει να μην το δημοσιεύσω αλλά η πεποίθηση οτι στην Ελλάδα ο αντισημιτισμός περιορίζεται στο ΛάΟΣ του Γ.Καρατζαφέρη ή είναι μόνο λόγια οφείλει να αντιμετωπίσει τα γεγονότα.

Βίαια αντισημιτικά γεγονότα συνέβησαν 9 ελληνικές πόλεις: σε Αθήνα, Θεσσαλονίκη, Λάρισα, Βόλο, Ιωάννινα, Κέρκυρα αλλά και σε judenrein πόλεις όπως Κομοτηνή, Βέροια και Δράμα. Σε πανελλήνιο επίπεδο είδαμε εξοργιστικές δηλώσεις για «εβραίους που μυρίζουν αίμα» από τον ηγέτη της Ακρας Δεξιάς Γιώργο Καρατζαφέρη και που σιωπηλά επικροτήθηκαν από τον Πρόεδρο της Βουλης Δ.Σιούφα. Η Αριστερά καταδίκασε με την μέγιστη αυστηρότητα το Ισραήλ και ταυτόχρονα αρνήθηκε να καταδικάσει τα βίαια αντισημιτικά επεισόδια στην ίδια της την χώρα, ενώ τραγελαφική ήταν η χρησιμοθηρική αναφορά στο “Ολοκαύτωμα” στη Γάζα από ανθρώπους που ευτελίζουν ενσυνείδητα την Σοά και αρνούνται να συμμετάσχουν σε όποια τελετή μνήμης.

Στελέχη της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος όπως ο Μητρ.Πειραιώς Σεραφείμ μίλησαν για “σιωνιστικά τέρατα με γαμψά νύχια” που στηρίζονται από τις «μασονικές στοές» και κατηγόρησε ευθέως τους έλληνες εβραίους, (ο νεοναζιστικός Στόχος επικροτεί). Άλλοι όπως ο Μητροπ.Θεσσαλονικής Ανθιμος, (γνωστός για άλλες αμφισβητήσιμες δηλώσεις), είπε οτι οι εβραίοι τιμωρούνται γιατί “σταύρωσαν το Χριστό” και είναι θεοκτόνοι – άλλωστε την κάρτα των θεοκτόνων την έπαιξαν και πρωτοσέλιδα εφημερίδων όπως η Βραδυνή μιλώντας για «Σταύρωση» και «Πόντιους Πιλάτους».  Δεν αναφέρομαι καν στα πρωτοσέλιδα παρανοϊκών αντισημιτικών ορθόδοξων εφημερίδων όπως ο Ορθόδοξος Τύπος που μιλούσαν “ΣΙΩΝΙΣΤΑΙ ΚΑΙ ΜΑΣΩΝΟΙ ΣΤΗΡΙΖΟΥΝ ΤΗΝ ΣΦΑΓΗ”, αλλά θα περιορισθώ στην αντισημιτική εφημερίδα Αυριανή που στο πρωτοσέλιδο δεξιά κατηγόρησε τους αμερικανοεβραίους οτι έκλεψαν τον πλούτο, δημιούργησαν την παγκόσμια οικονομική κρίση μας πληροφορούσε για τις προσπάθειες των αμερικανοεβραίων να ξεκινήσουν τον Γ’ΠΠ (!!!), ενώ και αυτή μίλησε για «Ολοκαύτωμα». Μη ξεχάσουμε την Απογευματινή με πρωτοσέλιδο “Ολοκαύτωμα” και που είχε υποστηρίξει στο παρελθόν οτι οι ισραηλινοί κλέβουν τα όργανα των Παλαιστινίων και όλες τις υπόλοιπες εφημερίδες που αρνήθηκαν συστηματικά να αναφερθούν στο ρατσιστικό μίσος που κυρίευσε την χώρα.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί το μένος που επιδείχθηκε από τηλεοράσεις και ραδιόφωνα – ξεχωρίζει η ραδιοφωνική εκπομπή του Τζίμη Πανούση που ξεκαθάριζε οτι δεν υπάρχει καλός εβραίος αλλά είναι όλοι γουρούνια και δολοφόνοι αλλά ευτυχώς οι μέρες τους είναι μετρημένες. Αλλά ας περιοριστούμε στις απτές εκφράσεις του εφιάλτη του ρατσισμού που εκφράστηκε από την Ακρα Αριστερά, την Ακρα Δεξιά και τις νεοναζιστικές ομάδες της χώρας μας.

Αθήνα

Αντισημιτικά γκράφιτι εμφανίστηκαν σε πολλούς δρόμους της πόλης – εδώ βλέπουμε σύνθημα στο εβραϊκό νεκροταφείο που μιλάει για “ΙΣΡΑΗΛΙΤΕΣ ΕΒΡΑΙΟΙ ΦΟΝΙΑΔΕΣ”. Αν υπήρχε κάποια αμφιβολία για την θρησκευτική δίασταση της αντίθεσης, οι δράστες φρόντισαν να το ξεκαθαρίσουν με το να προσθέσουν το εβραίος μετά το ισραηλίτης, αφού μάλλον το μπέρδεψαν με το ισραηλινός.

Μεταξύ των πολλών αντιπολεμικών διαδηλώσεων ξεχωρίζουν αυτές της Χρυσής Αυγής όπου η “Λευτεριά στην Παλαιστίνη” συνδυάζονταν αρμονικά με το “Τσεκούρι και φωτιά στα εβραϊκά σκυλιά” και το “Εβραίοι,Γουρούνια,Φονιάδες των Λαών”, (έχω και το βιντεο με την παρέλαση τους στο κέντρο της Αθήνας – σε άλλες περιπτώσεις αριστερές και αναρχικές ομάδες αντιστέκονται αλλά από ότι φαίνεται δεν πρέπει να διαφωνούσαν σε αυτή την περίπτωση). Στελέχη της οργάνωσης έδωσαν συνεντεύξεις σε πανελλήνιους τηλεοπτικούς σταθμούς όπως το Μέγκα – και γιατί όχι; Αλλωστε τα διάφορα ακροδεξιά κόμματα μάζεψαν περίπου 11% στην Αθήνα στις ευρωεκλογές που ακολούθησαν.

Βέροια

Άγνωστοι προσπάθησαν να πυρπολήσουν την Συναγωγή που βρίσκεται μέσα στην εβραϊκή συνοικία της Μπαρμπούτας μέσα στην πόλη της Βέροιας – ευτυχώς η φωτιά δεν επεκτάθηκε και μόνο η είσοδος και η βεράντα υπέστησαν ζημίες. Κατά διαβολική σύμπτωση πριν ένα χρόνο έγραφα για τις κατηγορίες οτι οι εβραίοι ενέχονται σε ανθρωποθυσίες που διατυπώθηκαν τον τηλεστάρ και επιτυχημένο συγγραφέα Ιωάννη Φουράκη, λόγω των ερευνών για την εύρεση του Αλεξ Μεσχισβίλι κοντά στην Μπαρμπούτα.

Βόλος

Η εβραϊκή κοινότητα της πόλης στοχοποιήθηκε από αριστερούς “ακτιβιστές” οι οποίοι έγραψαν συνθήματα στο τοίχο της συναγωγής της πόλης στις 31/12 απαιτώντας από έλληνες να απολογηθούν για το τι συμβαίνει σε ένα τρίτο κράτος και πιστοποιητικό κοινωνικών φρονημάτων στο χώρο όπου προσέρχονται για να προσευχηθούν – οι λειτουργίες αναβλήθηκαν και η συναγωγή έκλεισε μέχρι να περάσει η μπόρα.

Η αριστερή οργάνωση Αντιεξουσιαστική Κίνηση, που εμφανίστηκε ως υπεύθυνη για το γεγονός, με ανακοίνωση της αποποιήθηκε κάθε ανάμειξη αλλά ταυτόχρονα φρόντισε να  εμφανίσει την εβραίους σχεδόν σαν απόδημους ισραηλινούς με το να ταυτίσει την κατάσταση τους με την “τουρκική” μειονότητα της Δυτικής Θράκης.

Δράμα

Το Μνημείο του Ολοκαυτώματος καλύφθηκε με συνθήματα υπέρ της Παλαιστίνης. Δεν είναι προφανώς η πρώτη φορά – ξεχωρίζει η φορά που αριστερός “ακτιβιστής” είχε φροντίσει να ανακοινώσει την βεβήλωση που πραγματοποιήθηκε λίγο μετά. Πέρα από το ανορθόγραφο σύνθημα, οι επίδοξοι ειρηνόφιλοι διέγραψαν και τα ονόματα των εβραϊκών κοινοτήτων της Δράμας, της Καβάλας, της Νέας Ορεστιάδας, του Διδυμότειχου, της Ξάνθης, της Κομοτηνής, των Σερρών και της Καβάλας που δολοφονήθηκαν από τους ναζί Γερμανούς και τους Βούλγαρους σύμμαχους τους – το τι μήνυμα ήθελαν να περάσουν το αφήνω σε εσάς.

Θεσσαλονίκη

Ημερίδα του Εβραϊκού Μουσείου αναβλήθηκε μετά από “προειδοποιήσεις φοιτητών”, ενώ η Ομάδα για την Μελέτη του Ελληνικού Εβραϊσμού στο Πανεπιστήμιο Μακεδονίας έγινε δέκτης “προειδοποιήσεων”. Δεν θα αναφερθώ καν στα δεκάδες γκραφίτι που γέμισαν του τοίχους της πόλης ταυτίζοντας ισραηλινούς ή/και έλληνες εβραίους με τους ναζί.

Διμοιρίες των ΜΑΤ βρέθηκαν να φρουρούν τα γραφεία της Εβραϊκής Κοινότητας και την συναγωγή πολλές φορές κατά την διάρκεια διαδηλώσεων. Το ΚΚΕ για μια ακόμη φορά αποφάσισε να καταλήγουν οι πορείες διαμαρτυρίας στο Μνημείο του Ολοκαυτώματος, (υπενθυμίζω οτι το επίσημο ΚΚΕ το είχε βανδαλίσει το 2006 κατά την διάρκεια της πρώτης διαδήλωσης από το Ολοκαύτωμα και μετά ενάντια στην εβραϊκή κοινότητα της πόλης που είχε καταλήξει στον βίαιο αποκλεισμό των γραφείων της Κοινότητας). Ξεχωρίζει η άρνηση του Συριζα να συμμετάσχει στην Εθνική Ημέρα Μνήμης Ολοκαυτώματος στις 27/1 – όχι ότι έτσι και αλλιώς συστηματικά αρνείται να παρουσιαστεί αλλά αξίζει να σημειωθεί η απύθμενη υποκρισία των τοπικών αξιωματούχων του που δεν έχουν πρόβλημα να διαφημίζουν τις “ανθρωπιστικές” εκδηλώσεις τους πάνω από τα οστά των 350.000/500.000 νεκρών εβραίων που ακόμα βρίσκονται κάτω από το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο. Άλλωστε γνωρίζω για μια περίπτωση “αντιρατσιστή” τοπικού στελέχους, του οποίου το σπίτι στην Ανω Πόλη “στολίζεται” από λεηλατημένες ταφόπλακες του εβραϊκού νεκροταφείου.

Για τα αντισημιτικά κηρύγματα του τοπικού Μητροπολίτη, που διακρίνεται για την εβραιοφαγία του, αναφέρθηκα πριν. Η ειρωνία οτι τα κηρύγματα έγιναν στο Ναό του Αγίου Δημητρίου  που έχει φτιαχτεί από κλεμμένες εβραικές ταφόπλακες προφανώς δεν ήταν εμφανής στο σεβάσμιο ιερέα.

Ιωάννινα

Για πολλοστή φορά τα τελευταία χρόνια άγνωστοι έσπασαν τάφους στο εβραϊκό νεκροταφείο της πόλης στις 19/1. Το φαινόμενο είναι, πλέον, τόσο αναμενόμενο που ο πρόεδρος της Ισραηλιτικής Κοινότητας Ιωαννίνων είχε ήδη ειδοποιήσει την Αστυνομία, χωρίς όμως αυτή να λάβει μέτρα. Το εβραϊκό νεκροταφείο Ιωαννίνων έχει γίνει μόνιμος στόχος τα τελευταία χρόνια μέσα στην γενική αδιαφορία της τοπικής κοινωνίας και την πιθανή εμπλοκή των τοπικών αστυνομικών αρχών. Έκτοτε από τον Ιανουάριο μέχρι σήμερα έχουν γίνει πέντε επιθέσεις και φτάσαμε στο επίπεδο να βεβηλώνονται τα ίδια τα λείψανα με σκοτωμένα ζώα για να υπάρξει κάποια μικρή αντίδραση , ενώ οι τοπικές οργανώσεις της Νέας Δημοκρατίας διακρίθηκαν από την άρνηση τους να καταδικάσουν το γεγονός.

Αξίζει να τονίσουμε αυτή η σειρά επιθέσεων μαζί με αυτή του Ιουλίου ήταν μια από τις χειρότερες αντισημιτικές επιθέσεις των τελευταίων ετών, (στην φωτογραφία οι σπασμένοι τάφοι του Ιανουαρίου).

Κέρκυρα

Βανδαλισμοί σημειώθηκαν στην συναγωγή της πόλης. Προφανέστατα καμμία αντίδραση σε μια πόλη με μια μακριά παράδοση αντισημιτισμού, (το πογκρόμ του 1891 – το χειρότερο στην ελληνική ιστορία, η συνεργασία με τους γερμανούς στην εξαφάνιση της τοπικής εβραικής κοινότητας…).

Λάρισα

Η Λάρισα υπήρξε η πόλη στην οποία η αντισημιτική παράνοια της Αριστεράς και της Δεξιάς εκδηλώθηκε με ιδιαίτερη μανία. Κατά την διάρκεια πορείας για τις συνθήκες στις φυλακές στις 17/1 αναρχικοί και παλαιστίνιοι διαδηλωτές επιχείρησαν να βανδαλίσουν την συναγωγή της πόλης. Αυτόνομοι από συγκεκριμένη ομάδα που συμμετείχαν στην πορεία τους απέτρεψαν, παρά τις αντιδράσεις λοιπών μερών της διαδήλωσης. Η Συναγωγή χρειάστηκε και άλλες μέρες την προστασία από διμοιρίες των ΜΑΤ, ενώ συνθήματα των διαδηλωτών επαναλάμβαναν τις γνωστές κατηγορίες οτι οι εβραίοι ελέγχουν την Ελλάδα και οτι η Αστυνομία προστατεύει “τους αφέντες” της.

Την ίδια μέρα ακροδεξιές οργανώσεις συνδεδεμένες με την Χρυσή Αυγή διοργάνωσαν συγκέντρωση έξω από τον χώρο όπου είναι συγκεντρωμένη η Συναγωγή και το Εβραϊκό Σχολείο με τίτλο “Εβραίοι Δολοφόνοι. Έξω από την Λάρισα!“, (στην φωτογραφία δεξιά screenshot από νεοναζιστικό ιστότοπο που ανακοίνωνε την νεοναζιστική σύναξη – η ανάρτηση σήμερα έχει διαγραφεί). Η συγκέντρωση κατέληξε στον βανδαλισμό του μνημείου για την εξόντωση των Λαρισαίων Εβραίων. Ταυτόχρονα κυκλοφόρησαν μηνύματα για μποϋκοτάζ των εβραϊκών καταστημάτων και μηνύματα για  μαζική συμμετοχή της Χρυσής Αυγής σε διαδηλώσεις της “ΠΑΝΕΥΡΩΠΑΪΚΗ ΕΠΙΤΡΟΠΗ ΓΙΑ ΤΟΝ ΤΕΡΜΑΤΙΣΜΟ ΤΟΥ ΑΠΟΚΛΕΙΣΜΟΥ ΤΗΣ ΓΑΖΑΣ· ΣΥΝΔΕΣΜΟΣ ΕΛΛΗΝΟΠΑΛΑΙΣΤΙΑΝΙΚΗΣ ΦΙΛΙΑΣ”. Ας μην ξεχνάμε οτι η Συναγωγή αποτελεί μόνιμο πέρασμα των νεοναζιστικών διαδηλώσεων της Χρυσής Αυγής μέχρι και σήμερα όπως μαθαίνουμε από την ίδια την Χρυσή Αυγή.

Δεν χρειάζεται να προσθέσω οτι η εβραϊκή κοινότητα της πόλης μετά από αυτή την συνδυασμένη επίθεση από Αριστερούς και Δεξιούς αντισημίτες αναγκάστηκε να διακόψει κάθε κοινοτική δραστηριότητα μέχρι να ηρεμήσουν τα πράγματα, ενώ αυξήθηκαν τα μέτρα προστασίας στο εβραϊκό σχολείο που βρίσκεται στην ιδια περιοχή.

Επιμύθιο

Είναι αδαής ή ανενημέρωτος ή κακόβουλος αυτός που πιστεύει οτι στην Ελλάδα δεν υπάρχει αντισημιτισμός και οτι οι έλληνες έχουμε κάνει το εμβόλιο κατά του ρατσισμού. Αυτό αφορά είτε πιθανούς ψηφοφόρους του ΛΑΟΣ, είτε υποψηφίους των Ο-Π που πιστεύουν οτι η ζωή των εβραίων στην Ελλάδα “δεν επηρεάζεται βαθύτερα” και τα κίνητρα της αντισημιτικής βίας βασίζονται στην “πολιτική του Ισραήλ”.

Πολύ χειρότερα γεγονότα συνέβησαν αλλού στην Ευρώπη όπως στην Ολλανδία, Γαλλία, Μεγάλη Βρετανία – η Ελλάδα δεν υπήρξε μοναδική περίπτωση. Πουθενά όμως δεν υπήρξε μια τέτοια εκκωφαντική απουσία αντιδράσεων από την κοινωνία και από τον πολιτικό κόσμο. Ευχαριστώ το Παρατηρητήριο των Συμφωνιών του Ελσινκι, τους terminal119 που υπήρξαν οι μόνοι που καταδίκασαν αυτές τις ενέργειες. Ολους τους υπόλοιπους τους ευχαριστώ για το διεθνιστικό τους ενδιαφέρον – τα εκατομμύρια των διαδηλώσεων για τις σφαγές των Κούρδων στο Ιράκ του Σαντάμ, τις σφαγές εκατοντάδων χιλιάδων μαύρων χριστιανών από άραβες μουσουλμάνους στο Νταρφούρ, την γενοκτονία στην Ρουάντα ή τις μαζικές σφαγές αλβανών από τους σέρβους αδερφούς στην γειτονιά μας σε Κόσοβο και Βοσνία ή ακόμα πιο πρόσφατα με τους Ταμίλ αποτελούν αποκαλυπτικές των κινήτρων τους πίσω από το όψιμο ενδιαφέρον τους.

Είναι γελοίοι και βαθύτατα υποκριτές αυτοί που ξέρουν να μιλάνε για καημένους επαγγελματίες αντιρατσιστές που δεν μπορούν να επικρίνουν το Ισραήλ χωρίς να κατηγορηθούν για αντισημιτισμό, ενώ στην πραγματικότητα κρατούν το στόμα τους ερμητικά κλειστό για τα όργια που συμβαίνουν στην ίδια τους την χώρα κάθε φορά που φουντώνει η κατάσταση στην Μέση Ανατολή. Οτι κάθε μέρα υπάρχουν δεκάδες άρθρα και τηλεοπτικές εκπομπές για τα δικαιώματα των παλαιστινίων, ενώ το γεγονός οτι στα Ιωάννινα κανείς δεν αισθάνεται ασφαλής για την τύχη των λείψανων της οικογένειας του – κατά τα άλλα ελλήνων πολιτών οι οποίοι είναι χρήσιμοι για φόρους, στρατό και για να λέμε πόσο ανεκτική είναι η χώρα μας – δεν ακούστηκε κουβέντα. Για να μην μιλήσω για την κατάσταση στην Θεσσαλονίκη με την οποία θα ασχοληθώ εκτενώς φέτος.

ΥΓ. Ξεχωρίζω την ανάρτηση του doctor που μόνο για φιλο-ισραηλινός δε μπορεί να κατηγορηθεί – με εκφράζει απόλυτα. Οσο για τους επαγγελματίες αντιφασίστες της Αριστεράς ξεχωρίζω τα σχόλια της antifa-area η οποία είναι ενδεικτική του αντιεξουσιαστικού/αριστερού αντισημιτισμού – δείτε και το About Us του ιστολογίου ενδεικτικό της πνευματικής τους ένδειας που ούτε να αντιγράψει παπαγαλία ένα κείμενο δεν είναι ικανή. Riot Police (MAT) guarding synagogues, meetings of anxious parents in Jewish schools – while synagogues, cemeteries and monuments became targets of vandalism and arson. This was the picture that Greek Jewry presented in December and January when the totality of the greek society decided that the best way to support the “champions of Hamas” (as infamous anti-Semitic newspaper Avriani put it, 29/12/08) was to burst against fellow greek citizens born with the wrong religion

Violent antisemitic incidents occurred in 9 greek cities: Athens, Salonica, Larissa, Volos, Ioannina, Corfu but also in judenrein cities such as Komotini, Veria, Drama. Nationwide we saw outrageous statements on “blood craving jews” by Extreme-Right leader Y.Karatzaferis, while Leftist leaders went overboard in condemning Israel but downright refused to condemn antisemitic incidents in their own home; especially their utilitarian reference to the Holocaust would have been tragic if not comic in front of their downright refusal to join the State Holocaust Memorial Day later in the month as they usually do. Members of the Greek Church like Metrop.of Piraeus Serafim spoke of “zionist monsters with sharp claws” being aided by “massonic lodges”. Metrop.of Salonica Anthimos, (already famous for other anti-jewish statements), said that Jews are being punished for killing Jesus Christ; the “Christ-Killer” card was also played by newspaper frontpages like Vradini speaking of “Crucifixion” and “Ponzio Pilates”.  I won’t even mention the paranoid  antisemitic Christian Orthodox newspapers like Orthodoxos Tipos who frontlined “Zionists and Massons support the slaughtering” but I will limit myself to the infamous antisemitic newspaper Avriani which spoke of American Jews stealing the money and causing the world economic crisis and warned us of American Jews plotting to set off WW3 (!!!) <photos in the left> while also frontlining “Holocaust”. Let’s not forget newspapers like Apogevmatini which frontlined “Holocaust” which had already accused Israelis of harvesting Palestinian organs long before the swedes ever discovering the rumor and all the other newspapers which refused to talk about the wave of antisemitic hatred that swept through Greece.

The Press and the TV did their best to exasperate the climate – a known liberal radio presenter, Jimmy Panousis, said it plainly: “There are no good jews” and that Jews are pigs and murderers but fortunately their days are numbered. But let’s limit ourselves to the tangible aspects of the racist nightmare that swept Greece and included Far Right, Far Left and neonazi groups in Greece.

Athens

Antisemitic graffiti appeared in many streets; in the photo we can see written on the walls of the Jewish Cemetery: “Israelites Jews Murderers”. In case the clearly religious aspect of the hatred went unnoticed, the perpetrators added “Jews” probably because they confused “Israelites” with “Israelis”.

Among the various antiwar protests, the one of neonazi group Chrissi Avgi gains prominence where “Freedom to Palestine” was combined with “Ax and fire to the jewish dogs” and “Jews, Pigs, Murderers of nations”, (Ι have the video of the march – usually they face leftist demonstrators but it appears that this time they were in agreement). Members of the neonazi group were interviewed by national TV stations like Mega TV and why shouldn’t they, Extreme-Right political parties managed to gather 11% in Athens in the recent elections.

Veria

Unknown perpetrators attempted to set on fire the synagogue of the city in the center of Veria, in the old Jewish Quarter named Barbouta – fortunately only the door and the patio suffered damage. Ironically a year ago I was writing about blood libel accusations from trash-TV star and successful author Ioannis Fourakis who accused Jews of human sacrifices during the search of hate-crime victim Alex Mechisvili in the Barbouta district.

Volos

"The State of Israel is murdering! What side are you on?"

The Jewish Community of Volos was targeted by leftist protesters which sprayed graffiti on the exterior wall of the synagogue and against the community itself on 31/12 demanding greek citizens apologizing for what is happening in a third country and asking for loyalty credentials in the place they go to worship;  the synagogue remained closed and services were suspended indefinitely.

The leftist organization Antiexousiastiki Kinisi, which appeared responsible for the act, denied in a statement any involvement after presenting Greek Jews almost as Israelis in exile when drawing a parallel with what the situation of the “turkish” minority of Western Thrace.

Drama

The Holocaust Monument was vandalized with pro-Palestinian graffiti. Of course it wasn’t the first time happening, with the most famous vandalism being the one by a leftist activist some years ago who announced his intentions amidst general indifference to the act he proceeded to do. Besides the wrong spelling the would-be peace activists also erased the names of the murdered, by the nazi Germans and their Bulgarian allies, Jewish Communities of Serres, Drama, Kavala, Nea Orestiada, Didymoteicho, Xanthi, Komotini. What was their message I leave it up to you to interpret.

Salonika

A seminar of the Jewish Museum was postponed after “warnings” of students, while a meeting of the Study Group for Greek Jewry also received “warnings”. I won’t even comment on the tenths of graffiti appearing all over the city equating the Greeks Jews and/or Israelis to the Nazis.

Riot Police (MAT) were often found guarding the offices of the local community and Synagogue. The greek Communist Party once again decided to end its protests in the Holocaust Memorial that had vandalized in 2006, (only to top that with a demonstration against the Salonican Jews themselves the following day ending in the blockade of the communal offices), while leftist parliamentary party Syriza declined to participate in the Holocaust Memorial Day, as it has done frequently the past years. I won’t comment on the bottomless hypocrisy of the local party officials which on the other hand have no problem hosting their “antiwar” rallies on the University which lies on top of the remains of 350.000/500.000 Jews which were never removed from the destroyed, by Greek Authorities during the Holocaust, Jewish Cemetery of Thessaloniki. Indicative is the case of an “anti-racism” activist whose house in Ano Poli district is “adorned” with looted Jewish gravestones.

We have already mentioned above of the antisemitic sermons of the local Metropolite. The irony that the sermon took place in the St.Demetrious Church which is constructed by looted Jewish gravestones was probably lost on the elder priest.

Ioannina

Broken tombs in January

For yet another time the local Jewish Cemetery was vandalized and some tombs were broken on 19/1. These incidents are so common that the president of the community had already warned the Police which declined from taking preventive measures. The Jewish cemetery in Ioannina is a permanent target of extreme-Right vandalism the past years amids the general indifference of the local society and suspicions for possible local Police involvement in the vandalisms. Since January we have had 5 attacks and we’ve reached a level of the remains themselves being desecrated with smashed animals to have any kind of reaction, while the local organization of ruling conservative party Nea Dimokratia refused categorically to condemn the incident.

It’s worthy to point out that these attacks, together with the one of July are probably the worst antisemitic incidents in recent years, (in the photo the broken graves of January).

Corfu

The city Synagogue was vandalized. Of course there were no reactions in an island with a strong antisemitic tradition, (the 1891 pogrom – worst in greek history, local cooperation with the Germans during the Holocaust etc).

Larissa

The town in which the antisemitic madness of both Left and Right was emblematic. During a protest on 1/17 anarchics and Palestinians tried to vandalize the Synagogue. Other autonomous protesters from a specific group managed to stop them despite the general resentment. Riot Police protected the Synagogue for several days, while protesters suggested that Jews rule Greece and thus the Police was protecting “it’s masters”.

The same day FarRight and neonazi groups linked with Chrissi Avghi also held a protest near  the Synagogue and the Jewish Elementary School; the main theme was “Jewish Murderers – Get out of Larissa”.  <screenshot of the invitation in the left – they have removed any trace since> The protest resulted in vandalizing of the Holocaust Monument for the  murdered Jews of Larissa.  Contemporaneously messages circulated calling on the boycotting of Jewish shops and the participation of Chrissi Avghi in protests of the “Paneuropean Comittee on ending the Gaza boycott – GreekPalestian Friendship committee“. Let’s not forget that still today neonazi marches do not fail to pass in front of the Synagogue and shout antisemitic slogans.

Needless to add that the Jewish Community of Larissa after these combined attacks by Leftist and Rightist antisemites was forced to suspend all communal activities until things calmed down, while security measures were increased in the Jewish School which is found in the same area.

Aftermath

He is either ignorant or not-informed or malicious anyone who thinks that in Greece there is no antisemitism and greeks have taken the immunization shot against racism. This includes the possible voters of antisemitic political party LàOS and the Green’s candidates who think the life of Greek Jews “is not deeply affected” and the motives of antisemitic violence are based “on the policy of Israel”.

Much worse happened in Europe like the Netherlands, France or Great Brittain – Greece was neither an isolated case, nor would it qualify as the worse offender. Still, nowhere in the world did we see such a deafening lack of reactions by the greek political parties and society in general. I would like to thank Helsinki Monitor, terminal119 for they were the only ones to condemn these acts. Concluding I would like to thank everyone else for the famous greek international solidarity – the innumerable protests for the slaughter of Kurds in Saddam’s Iraq, the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of black christians by muslim arabs in Darfur, the genocide in Rwanda or the mass murders of albanians by our serb brothers in our own back yard or even more recently for the Tamil massacres are immensely revealing of the real motives behind their interest.

I would also like to add that they are ludicrous and deeply hypocritical those who cry over poor professional antiracism activists in Greece who cannot judge Israel without being accused of antisemitism, while they keep their mouths hermetically shut over the orgies that take place in their own country every time the situation in the Middle East gets heated. That every single day there were articles and TV shows on the Palestinian rights while on the fact that in Ioannina no one is was feeling secure even for the fate of the remains of their loved ones – greek citizens useful for taxes, the army and saying how tolerant Greece is – wasn’t being said anything.

Again vandalized

For the 4rth (!) time since the beginning of 2009 the Jewish cemetery of Ioannina was vandalized, escalating the climate of intimidation against the Jewish Community of Ioannina which is a member of the oldest branch of Greek Jewry – the Romaniote Jews who trace their ancestry in Greece back to millenia; again amidst the general indifference of the city and the Greek State.

In the night of Wednesday 8th of July, unknown perpetrators yet again unleashed their hate smashing at least 3 graves and not limiting themselves to mere antisemitic graffiti as it happened tenths of times in the past decade.  And, what a surprise, nobody heard or seen anything…again. This was the fourth time since January and it follows one of the most brutal antisemitic attacks ever to have happened in post-WW2 Greece, where just a month ago specific contemporary graves belonging to families of living Yanniote Jews were smashed, the corpses themselves exposed and the Holocaust Memorial vandalized by spraying blood of a smashed animal.

At that time the president of the Community Prof.Elissaf, who had the tomb of his own mother destroyed, accused the Police of criminal negligence since the attacks on the Cemetery were incessant. He asked for solidarity by the city of Ioannina, a plea which was met with indifference or even downright mockery.

The community of Yaniote Jews also has an important group in New York formed by Greek Jews from Yannina who emigrated in the US and formed the Kehila Kedosha Jannina and the synagogue found in Lower East Side. They have kept strong ties with their origins and visit often Ioannina. Their last visit happened after the last attack and in their newsletter they claim that the perpetrators are neonazis and denounce the response of the Police and the indirect support of the local Church to the neonazis, while the City Council refused to openly deal with the matter.

Before quoting here a small excerpt of their newsletter let me remind you that the Police itself was implicated in 2002 in the series of vandalisms when the head of the Narcotics Dept Mr.Dakoumes was surprised by his colleagues inside the cemetery that had just been vandalized. The story, despite requests for the Prosecutor to intervene, was subsequently covered up.

In my personal opinion I find even more disturbing, than these neonazi antisemitic attacks, the complete indifference by the local representatives of the Greek State. And let’s presume that the Ioannina Police Dept is no better than the Greek Police in general which has often been accused of colluding with neonazi groups. Where is the civil society of Ioannina? Where are the leftist organizations and parties who claim to fight fascism? I won’t even mention the Church of Ioannina which apparently continues the tradition of keeping quiet when Jews are persecuted, (but had been quite vocal regarding looting their assets during the Shoah). Immediate action must be taken to safeguard the tombs where our forefathers still rest, the perpetrators finally apprehended and an honest effort to counter antisemitism so that next time this happens we won’t have to beg for solidarity. It goes without saying that the Police Department of Ioannina should immediately change policy since their are not only credited with their failure to bring the neonazis to justice but also are found of a suspicious unwillingness to deal with the matter.

Για την τέταρτη φορά (!) από την αρχή του έτους, το Εβραϊκό Νεκροταφείο των Ιωαννίνων έπεσε θύμα βανδαλισμού κλιμακώνοντας το κλίμα εκφοβισμού κατά της Κοινότητας των Ιωαννίνων που είναι ηναι μέλος του παλαιότερου κλάδου του Ελληνικού Εβραϊσμού, των Ρωμανιώτων που μετρούν μια υπερδισχιλιετή παρουσία στον ελλαδικό χώρο. Ξανά δυστυχώς μέσα στην αδιαφορία του Κράτους και της πόλης των Ιωαννίνων.

Το βράδυ της Τετάρτης 8 Ιουλίου, άγνωστοι επιτέθηκαν στο νεκροταφείο καταστρέφοντας τουλάχιστον 3 τάφους και χωρίς να περιοριστούν απλά σε αντισημιτικά γκραφίτι όπως συνέβη δεκάδες φορές τα τελευταία χρόνια. Και,  τι έκπληξη, κανείς δεν είδε ή άκουσε τίποτα…ξανά. Αυτή ήταν η τέταρτη φορά από τον Ιανουάριο και ακολουθεί μια από τις χειρότερες αντισημιτικές επιθέσεις που συνέβησαν μετά τον Β’ΠΠ στην Ελλάδα, όταν καταστράφηκαν συγκεκριμένοι πρόσφατοι τάφοι που ανήκαν σε οικογένειες που ακόμα ζουν στην πόλη, τα λείψανα των οποίων εκτέθηκαν και το Μνημείο του Ολοκαυτώματος βανδαλίστηκε με αίμα ζώου.

Ο πρόεδρος της Κοινότητας Καθηγητής Ελισσάφ, που τάφος της ίδιας του της μητέρας είχε καταστράφεί, τότε είχε κατήγγειλει  την Αστυνομία για εγκληματική αδιαφορία αφού οι επιθέσεις είναι συνεχείς. Η έκκληση του για αλληλεγγύη από την πόλη των Ιωαννίνων έπεσε στο κενό και μάλιστα έγινε δέκτης εμπαιγμών.

Η κοινότητα των Γιαννιωτών Εβραίων έχει ένα σημαντικό παρακλάδι στην Νέα Υόρκη που αποτελείται από γιαννιώτες που μετανάστευσαν στις αρχές του αιώνα στις ΗΠΑ και οι οποίοι δημιούργησαν την Κεϊλά Κεντόσα Γιάννινα με μια συναγωγή στο Lower East Side. Έχουν κρατήσει στενή επαφή με το τόπο καταγωγής τους και συχνά τον επισκέπτονται. Η τελευταία τους επίσκεψη τον περασμένο μήνα οδήγησε σε μια ανακοίνωση που καταγγέλλουν τους δράστες οτι είναι γνωστή νεοναζιστική ομάδα, η Αστυνομία είναι εχθρική, ο τοπικός Μητροπολίτης έμμεσα στηρίζει τους νεοναζί δράστες αρνούμενος κατηγορηματικά να τα καταδικάσει, ενώ ο Δήμος αρνείται να πάρει δραστική θέση.

Αξίζει να θυμηθούμε οτι η ίδια η Αστυνομία είχε βρεθεί μπλεγμένη σε μια βεβήλωση το 2002, όταν αστυνομικοί ξάφνιασαν τον αρχηγό της Δίωξης Ναρκωτικών κ.Δακουμέ στο νεκροταφείο που μόλις είχε βανδαλιστεί. Παρά τις εκκλήσεις για παρέμβαση του Εισαγγελέα, η υπόθεση καλύφθηκε.

Η προσωπική μου άποψη είναι οτι δεν είναι μόνο απαράδεκτες αυτές οι νεοναζιστικές, αντισημιτικές επιθέσεις. Ακόμα περισσότερο απαράδεκτη είναι η αδιαφορία των τοπικών εκπροσώπων του Κράτους. Μα ας δεχτούμε οτι η Αστυνομική Διεύθυνση Ιωαννίνων δεν διαφέρει από την Ελληνική Αστυνομία που συχνά κατηγορείται οτι συνεργάζεται με νεοναζιστικές ομάδες. Πού είναι η κοινωνία των Ιωαννίνων; Που είναι τα υποτιθέμενα αντιφασιστικά αριστερά κόμματα και οργανώσεις; Δεν αναφέρω καν την Μητρόπολη των Ιωαννίνων που συνεχίζει τη παράδοση της σιωπής όταν οι εβραίοι καταδιώκονται αλλά υπήρξε ιδιαιτέρως δραστήρια όταν θέλησε να “εκμεταλλευθεί” τις περιουσίες τους κατά την διάρκεια του Ολοκαυτώματος. Άμεσες ενέργειες πρέπει να γίνουν ώστε να προστατευθούν οι τάφοι των οικογενειών μας από μελλοντικές επιθέσεις, οι δράστες να συλληφθούν και τα Ιωάννινα να λάβουν συγκεκριμένη και δημόσια δράση ενάντια στον αντισημιτισμό ώστε να μην χρειάζεται η Κοινότητα να εκλιπαρεί για λίγη συμπαράσταση. Αυτονόητη είναι η άμεση αλλαγή της στάσης της Αστυνομικής Διεύθυνσης Ιωαννίνων που χρεώνεται όχι μόνο την ανικανότητα της να συλλάβει τους δράστες αλλά και από μια ύποπτη απροθυμία.

Αυτό είναι το κείμενο της εκπομπής του Τζίμη Πανούση, που μεταδίδεται καθημερινά από τον ραδιοφωνικό σταθμό City 99,5 ιδιοκτησίας Θεόδωρου και Γιάννας Αγγελόπουλου, (όχι κάποιο περιθωριακό σταθμό) και το οποίο μπορείτε να ακούσετε οι ίδιοι εδώ. Σημειωτέον η ανάρτηση αυτή αφορά μόνο την 5 Ιανουαρίου γιατί πιθανόν να συνέχισε και άλλες μέρες όπως υποθέτω από τα σχόλια εδώ.

Σπάνια έχω την ευκαιρία να έχω μπροστά μου έναν άνθρωπο που θεωρείται προοδευτικός και εναντίον του ρατσισμού, κατά δική του ομολογία, να μιλάει με τόσους ξεκάθαρους όρους για το τι πιστεύει για τους εβραίους. Μπορεί οι όροι που χρησιμοποίησε να ήταν λίγο μη καθωσπρέπει αλλά, διάολε , αυτό είναι που εκτιμούμε όλοι στον Τζίμη Πανούση. Ο Τζίμης Πανούσης αυτή την φορά εξέφρασε το συναίσθημα πολλών ελλήνων, αριστερών και δεξιών – ορθόδοξων και άθεων, για το τι είμαι εγώ και οι εβραίοι γενικότερα: διαχρονικά τοκογλύφοι, με πάθος για τα πολιτισμικά σκουπίδια, ελέγχουμε την σοου μπίζ, ζάπλουτοι με πυραμίδες χρημάτων ελέγχοντας τις τράπεζες και οτι στην πραγματικότητα όλοι οι εβραίοι είμαστε το ίδιο σατανικοί και δολοφόνοι, μετενσάρκωση των ναζί. Στο τέλος κάνει μια ευχή ώστε να εκλείψει, με ειρηνικό τρόπο οφείλω να ομολογήσω, η φάρα των ιουδαίων φονιάδων. Είναι σπάνια η εθνική ομοψυχία που μας επιτρέπει να βρίσκουμε το ίδιο σύνθημα τόσο στην Δεξιά, όσο και στην Αριστερά. Ο Τζίμης Πανούσης μας ενώνει όλους !

Tzimis Panousis – Trojan Sound, Jan 5th 2009

This is the transcription of the salient points of the radio show of Jimmy Panousis, a daily broadcast in City 99,5FM, owned by Theodore and Yiannna Angelopoulos, (ie a mainstream radio), which you can hear yourselves here. It concerns only the January 5th show but I presume from other posts that it was not the only one.

It is not often that I have the chance to hear a person which is considered progressive and anti-racist, (by his own proclamation), to talk in such crystal clear terms on what he believes on the Jews. His terms may have been a bit coloured but, damn it!, this is what we like about Panousis, (he has a long history of controversy with the Greek Church and he enjoys a wide popularity over his songs with bold, anarchic lyrics). Jimmy Panousis expressed the feelings of many Greeks, both on the Left and the Right – Christians and Atheists, on what me and all of the Jews really are: loan sharks, passionate on cultural garbage, controlling the show biz, filthy rich and standing on pyramids of money in the banks we control; satanic murderers, a reincarnation of the nazis. In the end he wishes for the breed of hebrew murderers to extinguish, in a peaceful manner I must admit. And for all of this there was no need for Zionism but it has been the timeless historical character of the Jewish people.

Let’s not forget that the slogan of the show: “Jews – Pigs – Murderers” is not an invention of Jimmy Panousis but neonazi Chrissi Avghi and far-Left NAR were the first ones to use it. It is not often that one can find the same harmony of opinions in the Left and Right. Jimmy Panousis unites us all!

English Summary

The article deals with the reactions against the restoration of the Etz Chaim Synagogue in Chania, Crete in 1999. The Prefect of Chania Yorgos Katsanevakis and the local Metropolite Irineos accused that the re-opening was a move by the international Jewish Capital to threaten Crete and asked that the freedom of religion be denied to Greek Jews, while threatening of possible civic manifestations. Interestingly the prefect is part of the liberal, leftist party of Sinaspismos and despite his manifested antisemitic hatred, (he also played the “Christ Killer” card in 2002 when talking about Israel), remained a prominent party member showing the problematic dealing of antisemitism within the Greek Left. Since then the Synagogue has shown a remarkable track of integrating and enriching the local culture with a wealth of events, both religious and secular while many descendants of Cretan Jews have visited Crete or performed weddings and Bar Mitzvah’s.

The article serves more as a reference for an article I’m writing now so I’m publishing it in greek and I’ll translate it in english in due time.

Το εξωτερικό πριν (Source)

Η Συναγωγή των Χανίων Ετς Χαίμ ήταν η μόνη συναγωγή που είχε απομείνει στην πόλη μετά το Ολοκαύτωμα και τον χαμό των 276 κρητικών εβραίων το 1944 στο Αιγαίο Πέλαγος, μιας και η άλλη συναγωγή είχε καταστραφεί από τους βομβαρδισμούς το 1942 και η σχολή Ταλμούδ Τορά και το μικβέ είχαν καταπατηθεί. Ιδιοκτήτης της ήταν το ΚΙΣ και για δεκαετίες ήταν εγκαταλελειμμένη, ενώ ο σεισμός του 1994 δημιούργησε ιδιαίτερα προβλήματα.

To εξωτερικό σήμερα

Το 1996, χάρη στις ενέργειες του Νικου Σταυρουλάκη, η συναγωγή πέτυχε την ένταξη της στο κατάλογο του World Monument Fund με τα 100 παγκόσμια μνημεία σε κίνδυνο, (το WMF δεν είναι αμερικανοσιωνιστικό κατασκεύασμα: για το 2008 χρηματοδοτεί την αναστήλωση 12 ιστορικών εκκλησιών στην Λέσβο και ενός μακεδονικού τάφου στην Πέλλα). Οι δωρεές που συγκεντρώθηκαν ήταν της τάξης των 500.000 $ και μέσα σε 2 χρόνια έγινε δυνατή η ολοκληρωτική ανακαίνιση της Συναγωγής με τον καλύτερο δυνατό τρόπο, ενώ προγραμματίστηκαν πλήθος πολιτιστικών εκδηλώσεων τις οποίες η Συναγωγή θα διοργάνωνε με σκοπό την ενσωμάτωση της στην πολιτιστική ζωή της Κρήτης.

Οι εργασίες στην Συναγωγή έχαιραν όχι μόνο της υποστήριξης του WMF και του Ελληνικού Εβραϊσμού αλλά και  της θερμής ηθικής συμπαράστασης του Δήμου Χανίων ο οποίος έβλεπε μια ενέργεια η οποία εμπλούτιζε την πολιτισμική κληρονομιά της πόλης, αύξανε τον πιθανό αριθμό τουριστών και την επανασυνέδεε με μέρος της Ιστορίας της. Όταν όμως οι προσκλήσεις προς τους διάφορους φορείς έφτασαν στους παραλήπτες, η αντίδραση του Νομάρχη Χανίων και του τοπικού Μητροπολίτη αναβίωσαν στιγμές της ελληνικής ιστορίας όπου το μίσος και ο αντισημιτισμός κυριαρχούσαν.

Ο Νομάρχης Χανίων Γιώργος Κατσανεβάκης (Συνασπισμός) έστειλε μια επιστολή όπου διαμαρτύρονταν με δριμύτητα για την επαναλειτουργία της Συναγωγής. Ο μισαλλόδοξος πολιτικός επέτρεπε με μεγαλοψυχία την αναστήλωση του κτιρίου, ιδιοκτησίας ΚΙΣ, αλλά ζητούσε την απαγόρευση της τέλεσης θρησκευτικών λειτουργιών και ταυτόχρονα ξεσπούσε σε ένα παραλήρημα στο οποίο κατηγορούσε το “Εβραϊκό κεφαλαίο” για επιδρομή στην Κρήτη και αναρωτιώνταν “Οι λειτουργίες και οι τελετές της Συναγωγής σε ποιους θα απευθύνονται; Στο άδειο από πιστούς μνημείο, σε αργόσχολους τουρίστες ή σε μεταφερόμενο από αλλού εκκλησίασμα;” Ταυτόχρονα ο Μητροπολίτης Κυδωνείας Ειρηναίος απεύθυνε παρόμοια επιστολή και πρόσθετε οτι η λειτουργία της ήταν παράνομη γιατί δε του ζήτησαν την άδεια – το τραγικό ήταν οτι ο Μητροπολίτης είχε δίκιο (!) γιατί η ανεξιθρησκεία στην Ελλάδα αποτελεί υπό την αίρεση του οικείου Μητροπολίτη, χωρίς την άδεια του οποίου απαγορεύεται η λειτουργία ναού άλλης θρησκείας.

Επειδή είχα την δυνατότητα να διαβάσω τις επιστολές, προσωπικά θεωρώ οτι το πιο ανησυχητικό κομμάτι ήταν η προειδοποίηση οτι μπορεί να υπήρχαν λαϊκές κινητοποίησεις τις οποίες δεν θα μπορούσαν να ελέγξουν. Αυτή η κεκαλυμμένη απειλή για πογκρόμ, σε συνδυασμό με την αντίθεση στην ανεξιθρησκεία, αποτελεί μιας από τις χειρότερες στιγμές του σύγχρονου ελληνικού αντισημιτισμού αφού δεν έγινε από κάποιον προβληματικό νεοναζιστή αλλά από τον ανώτατο τοπικό εκπρόσωπο του Ελληνικού Κράτους και έρχονταν σε αντίθεση με σωρεία συνταγματικών δικαιωμάτων όπως αυτό της υποχρέωσης της Πολιτείας για την προστασία της αξίας του ανθρώπου (Αρθρο 2), της ελεύθερης ανάπτυξης προσωπικότητας (Αρθρο 5), της ελευθερίας της ανεμπόδιστης λατρείας γνωστής θρησκείας και ελευθερίας θρησκευτικής συνείδησης (Αρθρο 13). Δυστυχώς τόσο ο τότε Υπουργός Εθνικής Παιδείας και Θρησκευμάτων Γεράσιμος Αρσένης, όσο και ο  αρχηγός του Συνασπισμού Νίκος Κωνσταντόπουλος δεν συμμετείχαν στα εγκαίνια, τα οποία είχαν λάβει άλλες διαστάσεις μετά το απειλητικό κλίμα που είχε διαμορφωθεί στα Χανιά και ούτε καταδίκασαν την εκστρατεία μίσους.  Ενδεικτικό του κλίματος ήταν επιστολές κατοίκων όπως της “Κίνησης Πολιτών Χανίων” εδώ που υποστήριζαν οτι οι Εβραίοι προσπαθούν να “αυτονομήσουν” την Κρήτη – οι θεωρίες συνωμοσίες επιζούν μέχρι σήμερα όπως φαίνεται από το πρωτοσέλιδο της εφημερίδας Ορθόδοξος Τύπος της 30 Ιανουαρίου 2009. Ενδιαφέρον είναι οτι πρωταγωνιστές της εποχής, όπως ο κ.Δοξάκης, μετέπειτα προσχώρησαν στο ΛΑΟΣ δείχνοντας οτι ο Συνασπισμός και το ΛΑΟΣ μπορούν να τα βρουν.

Ευτυχώς τα εγκαίνια στις 10 Οκτωβρίου του 1999 έγιναν χωρίς επεισόδια και παρά την έμπρακτη αντίθεση του Νομάρχη και του Μητροπολίτη – παρόντες ήταν η ηγεσία του ΚΙΣ, της ΙΚΘ, ο Δημάρχος Χανίων Γιώργος Τζανακάκης (ΠΑΣΟΚ), εκπρόσωποι των πρεσβειών Γερμανίας και Ισραήλ, ο Κωσταντίνος Μητσοτάκης και πλήθος καλεσμένων από την Ελλάδα, την Ελβετία, τις ΗΠΑ, την Τουρκία, την Μεγάλη Βρετανία και το Ισραήλ.

Η Συναγωγή Χανίων: Η Συναγωγή στα Χανιά από τότε έχει υπάρξει υπόδειγμα λειτουργίας και το εύρος των δραστηριοτήτων της είναι εντυπωσιακό: Μπαρ Μιτζβά (τελετές θρησκευτικής ενηλικίωσης) για εβραίους από όλο τον κόσμο σαν τον Ντανιελ Αβράμ από την Βοστώνη, 6 γάμους από απογόνους εβραίων κρητικών που είχαν μεταναστεύσει στο εξωτερικό, συναυλίες κλασικής μουσικής, πολλαπλά σεμινάρια για τον κρητικό εβραϊσμό αλλά έχει ασχοληθεί και με μη-εβραϊκά θέματα όπως η διοργάνωση έκθεσης στον πολυχώρο “ΠολυΤεχνείο” για τις αλλαγές της πόλης των Χανίων τον Μάιο του 2009.

Ο Μητροπολίτης Ειρηναίος: αργότερα αναγκάστηκε να αναιρέσει μερικώς την στάση του – το 2006 εκλέχθηκε Αρχιεπίσκοπος Κρήτης.

Ο Γιώργος Κατσανεβάκης: Υπηρέτησε ως Δήμαρχος Χανίων κατά τα έτη 1983-1990 και Νομάρχης Χανίων την οκταετία 1998-2006. Πάντοτε συνεπές στέλεχος του Συνασπισμού σε πολλές περιπτώσεις μπόρεσε να εκφράσει το μίσος του για τους εβραίους και μετά το 1999. Το 2002 έπαιξε την κάρτα του χριστιανικού αντισημιτισμού κατηγορώντας οτι το Ισραήλ και οι σιωνιστές, μια λέξη που την χρησιμοποιεί έναντι του “εβραίος”, είναι κτήνη και σταυρώνουν τον Χριστό στο πρόσωπο των Παλαιστινίων και ζητώντας την διακοπή των διπλωματικών σχέσεων με το Ισραήλ, (πηγή). Το 2006 ο Συνασπισμός του Αλέκου Αλαβάνου στήριξε τον αντισημίτη υποψήφιο του για Νομάρχη, δείχνοντας οτι είτε οτι αποδέχεται πλήρως τον αντισημιτισμό και την μισαλλοδοξία ως αριστερές αξίες, (άλλοι υπήρξαν λιγότερο κομψοί χαρακτηρίζοντας τον πρώην νομάρχη ως “εθνικοσοσιαλιστή”).

The Jewish Cemetery of Ioannina/Jannina, home to one of the oldest communities of the Diaspora – the Romaniote Jews, has been vandalized again for the 3rd time since the beginning of the year. Vandalized for the first time during the war against Hamas in January, subsequently it was vandalized once more in March and again (!) was vandalized on Wednesday June 3rd 2009. It had already been targetted by antisemites tenths of times during the past decade, while never has anyone been even considered a possible suspect.

This time the antisemitic vandals went to the extreme limits – they destroyed 7/8 graves and the Holocaust Memorial inside the cemetery. The graves were not only smashed but a tortoise was killed to use it’s blood (!) to complete the unholy attack. One of the graves belonged to the Benefactor of the city of Ioannina Iosif Ganni and another one belonged to the mother of the president of the Jewish Community of Ioannina that had passed away relatively recently. These targeted and methodical destructions pinpoint to a clear plan and not some random antisemitic freak incident.The president of the Jewish Community, Moisis Elliasaf, who saw his own mother’s tomb destroyed and smeared with blood, accused the Greek Police of showing a complete lack of willingness to apprehend the perpetrators or prevent similar phenomena in the future. The Cemetery has been vandalized tenths of times in the past and sometimes the president himself has anticipated specific attacks and has asked, to no avail, for police protection – he was met with complete indifference, while the Police.

There is also the question on how the neighboring houses heard and saw nothing while the Cemetery is inside the urban area and the vandalism must have taken time but also the smashing of marbles is not exactly a quiet procedure. On a positive side the local Press has condemned unequivocally with harsh words these attacks and has downright refused to brush aside the issue, unlike the Police or greek media in General; the video is from Ioannina TV, while also local newspapers like Neoi Agones which has a good detailed report on the story or online portals as Epirus Post condemned vehemently the attack.

Το Εβραϊκό Νεκροταφείο Ιωαννίνων, μια κοινότητα από τις παλαιότερες της Διασποράς – σπίτι των Εβραίων Ρωμανιωτών, έγινε στόχος βανδαλισμού ξανά για 3η φορά από την αρχή του χρόνου. Πρώτη φορά τον Ιανουάριο κατά την διάρκεια του πολέμου με την Χαμάς, ξανά μετά τον Μάρτιο και ξανά (!) τα χαράματα της Τετάρτης 3 Ιουλίου 2009. Αυτή ήταν μόνο μια, από τις δεκάδες βεβηλώσεις την τελευταία δεκαετία, που έχει υποστεί το νεκροταφείο, χωρίς ποτέ να υπάρξει έστω και ένας πιθανός ύποπτος.

Αυτή τη φορά οι βάνδαλοι αντισημίτες ξεπέρασαν κάθε όριο – έσπασαν 7/8 τάφους και το Μνημείο των Γιαννιωτών Εβραίων που δολοφονήθηκαν στο Ολοκαύτωμα μέσα στο νεκροταφείο. Οι τάφοι όχι απλώς καταστράφηκαν αλλά χρησιμοποιήθηκε και μια χελώνα για να τους πασαλείψουν με αίμα (!) κατά την διάρκεια αυτής της ανίερης επίθεσης. Ενας από τους τάφους ανήκε στον Ευεργέτη της πόλης των Ιωαννίνων Ιωσήφ Γκανή, ενώ ένας άλλος στην μητέρα του προέδρου της Ισραηλιτικής Κοινότητας. Αυτές οι στοχευμένες επιθέσεις είναι ενδεικτικές οτι δεν αποτελούν ένα μεμονωμένο περιστατικό που να οφείλεται σε κάποιο “τρελό”, αλλά υπήρξαν προϊόν προσεκτικού σχεδιασμού.

Ο πρόεδρος της Κοινότητας, Μωυσής Ελλιασάφ, που είδε το τάφο της ίδιας του της μητέρας κατεστραμμένο, κατηγόρησε την Αστυνομία οτι δείχνει απόλυτη απροθυμία για να συλλάβει τους δράστες ή να αποτρέψει παρόμοια γεγονότα στο μέλλον. Το νεκροταφείο έχει βανδαλισθεί δεκάδες φορές και σε μερικές από αυτές είχε υπάρξει συγκεκριμένη προειδοποίηση και έκκληση για προστασία από τον κ.Ελλιασάφ, χωρίς κανένα αποτέλεσμα.

Επίσης ανακύπτει το θέμα του πως οι γείτονες δεν είδαν και δεν άκουσαν τίποτε, ενώ το νεκροταφείο βρίσκεται μέσα στον οικιστικό ιστό της πόλης και η καταστροφή μαρμάρων δεν είναι ακριβώς μια ήσυχη ή μη-χρονοβόρα διαδικασία. Στα θετικά του γεγονότος είναι η αντίδραση των τοπικών ΜΜΕ που καταδίκασαν με σκληρά λόγια τις επιθέσεις, σε αντίθεση με την Ελληνική Αστυνομία ή τα ελληνικά ΜΜΕ γενικά. Το βίντεο πιο πάνω είναι από τα Ioannina TV, ενώ τοπικές εφημερίδες όπως οι Νέοι Αγώνες που έχει ένα καλό αναλυτικό ρεπορτάζ ή ιστότοποι όπως η Epirus Post καταδίκασαν με σφοδρότητα την επίθεση.

the manifesto of the “Antisemitic Nucleus of Venetokleio Rhodes”

In this video we can see a self proclaimed antisemitic, neo-nazi group of students (of the “Venetokleio” High-School of Rhodes) which urinates on the Memorial of the Holocaust/Shoah which commemorates the extermination in nazi death camps of 1.522 Jews from Rhodes out of a total of 1.673 which were deported. Today only 30 – 40 Jews still live in Rhodes although there is a big community of Rhodian Jews (Rhodesli) in the USA which often travels to the island.

The names of those exterminated in Auschwitz and other camps can be found here so that we all understand that it isn’t numbers or an abstractive “history” that these antisemitic idiots urinate upon – it is people in flesh and blood which were either shot, beaten to death, ripped apart by dogs, exterminated in gas chambers or died during medical experiments.

This monument inaugurated in June 23rd 2002 is one of the Holocaust Monuments which has suffered most in Greece :
During it’s construction the workers protested of being harassed by bystanders with phrases like “Get out Jews”, “You’ll turn us all into Jews” and “You’ll bring Sharon here” and even hurled stones – a 24/7 police protection was needed to complete the works! But this didn’t stop barbaric individuals to begin immediately destroying the monument. During a period of 3 days, (starting the night of 30/6/2002 and finishing by morning of 3/7/2002) the Monument was being destroyed by people who erased the engraved lettering, cut the barbed wire which was part of the monument and knocked it off base – the Monument was destroyed. Local newspaper Proodos called it “unprecedented vandalism” and said that “the vandalism did not represent the people of Rhodes” but a spokesman from the Jewish Community of Rhodes claimed that local people showed no respect by sitting on it, eating and leaving leftovers on the Monument. After the destruction of the Monument the Community of Rhodes applied to the Archaeological Service for permission to built a bulletproof glass and protective railing around the Monument. I would like to highlight that these facts became known only thanks to the Greek Helsinki Monitor NGO – their report on 2002, one of the worst years concerning greek antisemitism with incidents in Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Ioannina can be found here.

Local newspaper Proodos also reported that the mayor of Rhodes Y.Giannopoulos received a letter by the leader of far-right, populist party of LAOS Y.Karatzaferis who objected to the building of the monument.

What do you want me to say? One can ask what threat can a bunch of school kids pose? In theory a small one but the systematic antisemitic violence which surrounded the inauguration in 2002 and nazi glorification in the stadiums should act as a warning that we have a problem here. The fact that they are so proud of themselves, that they openly praise nazi Germany which destroyed not only Greek Judaism but also enslaved our homeland, that they deliberately choose to specify that they are an antisemitic nucleus targeting Jews are facts deeply worrying.  What stops them from throwing a molotov coktail next time? So, although I know that it is unpleasant to think of 18 year olds becoming a physical threat and everybody wanting to attribute everything to “silliness” please remember the physical violence the workers faced during construction and the subsequent orgy of destruction latter; also that these kids are neo nazis and in this age they are often a tool in the hands of much more violent persons.

Also let’s not forget that there is a long standing tradition in Rhodes in soccer games of opponents being targeted as Jews and subsequent neo-nazi anthems. Examples include “The Holocaust was just the beginning – Sons of whores assholes Jews” – “Το Ολοκαύτωμα ήταν μόνο η αρχή – Πουτάνας γιοί Μαλάκες Οβριοί”. (I must point out that there have been cases where the local Police has done it’s duty and forbade these posters – in other times it has failed to do so).

Rhodes is a small place and the identity of these persons, who are proud to hate Jews and declare that “it’s a pity that Hitler didn’t slaughter them all” and “We are not fascists but Hitler was the only one to teach Jews a good lesson” is easy to find. I would like to ask that these people be found and forced to spend the summer  working in the Yad-Vashem and writing a paper on the Jews of their city and the Shoah – I doubt if this actually will help these people but I haven’t heard of a better solution yet. I would also like to remind that  acts such as vilifying monuments like the Shoah Monument or the Monument to the Unknown Soldier are punishable by law and these individuals claim to be 18, thus adults and punishable; but let me repeat that I do not advocate such a solution, but only the aforementioned above. Also the Venetokleio High School should consider permanently hosting a series of activities aimed in combating racism and antisemitism.

Update 25/08/08:

1. Local newspaper “Rodiaki” wrote an article about it which expresses it’s disgust with this action – I’m glad that they understand that this hate is against Rhodes itself and not only the Rhodian Jews
2. Jewish (1, 2) and Israeli (1, 2) media have also picked up the story.
3. A greek blog, Grep Alt, makes a comment on the responsibilities of the mainstream media who continually glorify personalities of dubious moral standing.

For some time now it has been rumored that Dimosthenis Liakopoulos, a TV salesman specializing in selling apocryphistic books – full of conspiracy theories, “Hellenic Truth” and good ol’anti-jewish hate speech, was close in making the leap from the tenths of small local TV stations where he currently appears to a big national TV channel.

Well it’s now a fact: the man who created a ludicrous parallel mythology where the greek race of the El fights against the zionist Nefelim & contemporaneously warns us of the evil Satan-induced zionism, appears regularly in Antenna TV whose ratings place him first or second place among national tv stations. Information (1, 2 in Cyprous also) says that he’ll manage the 2am-4am zone of the station with complete editorial freedom, but as the picture shows he has already began.

I would like to clear one thing: Antenna TV is not performing anything illegal – it is a private TV station which aims in making money and D.Liakopoulos is completely free in circulating his ideas. But the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of the Press is not the shield which allows the Press to avoid criticism; in this case Antenna TV has every legal right to sell air-time to D.Liakopoulos but also I have every right to consider this decision as hateful and deeply troubling. I do not think that the political views of Antenna have anything to do with the decision and clearly reject the notion that this decision is based on any kind of anti-jewish prejudice. But the fact that Mr.Liakopoulos appears regularly in small national channel Makedonia TV, also owned by Antenna TV, makes me wonder on the limits Antenna TV has or if indeed the owner of Antenna, Mr.Kyriakou – president of the Greek Olympic Committee, is in agreement with views which are chauvinistic…

I wonder: would Antenna TV sell air-time to a Mr.Dimitras denouncing civil rights violations? I sincerely doubt it, given the systematic denial to report on Human and Civil Rights violations in Greece, eg the most important judicial case of last year – the conviction of neo-nazi Mr.Plevris. Then why does he allow D.Liakopoulos to promote nationalism and lies? Is the money this important in allowing him to drag the station in his fantasy world where blatant antisemitism is one of it’s major characteristics?

Whether D.Liakopoulos continues his shows on Antenna TV is not what truly troubles me – it is the growing popularity of the conspiracy theories and the lack of opposition by the civil society. Another tele-evangelist, K.Velopoulos even became a parliamentarian for extreme-right, populistic LAOS party.  Is D.Liakopoulos only a clown that many picture him to be? Is it unlikely that his antisemitic views on the Jews find their way in prime-time national TV in a year or two? While many laugh at Mr.Liakopoulos and make fun of him, and God only knows how ridiculous his views are, he has managed to thrive and he is not that far away from becoming mainstream – one could claim that he is the living example of the deterioration of greek public speech and triumph of conspirationalism. And if you think that I’m exaggerating let me remind you that recently the ruling party’s (Nea Dimokratia) MP Yakumatos accused Prime Minister Simitis of being the “Arch-Priest of Judaism“, while LAOS party-leader Mr.Karatzaferis openly praised inside the Greek Parliament the divinative powers of the notoriously antisemitic book The Protocols of the Elders of Zions – all this without a single person rising to condemn them.

I do not advocate or demand stopping his program because he advances antisemitic views – this would be wrong – but I do believe that democratic citizens should create a moral consensus that hate speech is not wanted in Greece. The media must understand that they are free to promote whichever ideology they want but they shall be judged according to their editorial policy and the message it conveys – in this case I can only deduct that Antenna TV is indifferent to antisemitism and has no problem promoting it. I simply hope that Antenna TV decides to stop transmitting his shows not because they fear negative publicity but because they actually think it over and decide that Mr.Liakopoulos is not in line with their editorial policy and ethics.

I always keep hearing that Jews “always appear in the television” and “why the heck we’re constantly dealing with them“. This stuff makes me wonder if I live in a parallel universe; while indeed US series or movies often include a jewish character (extremely natural given the demographics of US population and their concentration in big urban centers) Jewish presence in greek television is virtually non-existent. Of course one could wonder why the heck should one expect it to be any more frequent given that Jewish Greeks are only 0.05% of the population. Well the answer to that is that greek jewish history is disproportionate to their number after WW2 – especially Thessaloniki hosted the most important shefardic community in the world. Also it puzzles me to have seen hundreds of documentaries on Dalai Lama or Tahiti but only a handful on an (interesting I hope) part of our society. In any case while one can hope for more information, there have been a couple of television shows (small TV stations like ΣΚΑΙ and ET3) who have dealt with the subject. Impressively a mainstream tv comedy series included a Jew among the roles and this shall be the object of this post…

The name of the series is “Deligiannio Parthenagogio/Δεληγιάννειο παρθεναγωγείο” and it’s a comedy based on the adventures that take place in an all girls’ school during the 1930’s soft-core fascist dictatorship of Ioannis Metaxas. Among the girls we have the young jewish student named Rosa Levi. I must admit that the script doesn’t excel for originality when it comes to her adventures: the young jewish girl faces some soft-core antisemitism from the local shrew while other girls support her – of course the main characters fancy her and oppose antisemitism. When the Germans occupy Greece everyone, even the shrew, help her to hide out while her parents are hidden by the local orthodox priest. In other words a simple, feel-good television series with drama like the deportations, youth love, messages against straightforward racism, while the viewers can identify themselves with the good greeks who are emblematic of the greek people who in their totality struggled heroically and saved the jews.

There isn’t of course any historical perspective and frankly it would be rather difficult to have it in a comic television series. This isn’t a documentary and I don’t think that the historical peculiarities of the era, (eg fascist Metaxas was far less antisemitic than the democratic pro-Venizelos politicians), would be well received from the public. In any case the series conveys messages against racism, at least against the blatant kind and Jews are portrayed in a favorite way – there is even a ladino song in the soundtrack, (click to hear a preview). Heck even the fact that the series treats clearly the Jewish Greeks as real Greeks is a novelty which initially it was hard to believe! In other words a television series which I was glad that was being transmitted in greek television.

So all good? Well not exactly… The novelty of seeing Jews facing antisemitism, getting help by greeks and even worse, appearing as greeks who speak greek and are human beings was apparently too much for some neo-nazis in Greece. The protagonist of the series, who also was the co-author of the series, Charis Romas, received a package full of love: a note full of threats accusing him of being “a friend of the jews” and “enemy of the nazi”, accompanied by two raw steaks of meat symbolizing what will happen to him, ie slice him up.

The actor pressed charges and the local police confirmed that it is rather typical that neo-nazi threat letters be accompanied by raw meat. In an interview he declared that he “considers all this a great silliness although highly threatening” and he does not intend to change his script which represents also his ideas. The Central Jewish Board issued a statement where it expressed it’s solidarity to the actor and congratulated him for his anti-racist messages.

I must admit that it’s very awkward that a comic actor, Charis Romas, appears in the forefront of the struggle against antisemitism but I must admit he has shown courage. Showing Jews in greek television (despite using feel-good stereotypes) is an audacious enterprise and I am not sure how much it has cost in ratings. Still it is a sign of how much road we still have to make to reach normalcy when coming to Jewish Greeks in the public life; if a silly, feel-good, harmless tv series which does not touch any real historical problem can cause such a response then much worse cases like the Rozakis affair appear much less extraordinary.
